The system uses a total of four to five tiny cameras which record the surroundings.
The video signals are then fed into software which projects an overhead 360° 'bird's eye view' of the area around the vehicle onto a navigation or infotainment screen.
The 360° bird's eye view gives the driver a clear indication of obstacles around the car, so promises to help getting into restricted spaces that would otherwise prove extremely difficult.
The system switches on automatically when the car is placed in reverse or, while driving at walking speed, by pressing the "camera" button on dashboard; then it switches off once the car has reached a set speed.
Objects moving into the driving path are highlighted, so that the potential danger can be noticed from the driver immediately.
