2017 Mercedes GLC Coupe interior and exterior design features promotional video

2017 Mercedes GLC Coupe interior and exterior design features promotional video You won’t see it in showrooms until early 2017, which should be enough time to get used to calling this hatchback a coupe.

features promotional videoThere is only one engine/transmission: a 241-hp turbo four with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a sunroof, a power liftgate, keyless ignition, and a 7-inch infotainment display. Options include heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and an air suspension. Safety tech includes collision prevention assist and stability control.

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Review

Hip new duds for MB's compact luxury crossover.

features promotional videoRemember when skinny jeans re-emerged a few years back? Largely out of vogue since their heyday of the ’80s era, when punk and metal scenesters adopted the calf-hugging denims as a reaction to the elephant-bell-bottom jeans of the 1970s, their home-crafted origins often resulted in what appeared to be a pair of rather sloppily tailored denim jodhpurs, comically undermining their objective as fashion statement. Twenty-first-century skinny jeans, on the other hand, are the product of mass-market demand. Offering stylish and comparatively conservative tailoring right off the rack, these duds offer buyers a painless way to get in on the latest trend while bolstering profits for their makers.

features promotional video The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC coupe is largely a product of the same philosophy. Based on the popular GLC compact luxury crossover, the GLC coupe dials up the style and hipness factors directly from the factory, while attempting to adhere to its core utility mission of hauling people and their stuff. Rival BMW tested these waters with its larger X6 so-called four-door coupe back in 2008, and fashionable consumers dutifully fell in line with cash in hand; when the compact BMW X4 four-door coupe resonated similarly in 2014, it signaled that a genuine shift in consumer taste was at hand. Even better, from the manufacturer’s standpoint, is that most of the heavy development work for the coupe was already done; they could simply derive a second model from an existing architecture. No longer a quirky anomaly, the GLC coupe is just the latest model to get in on the four-door crossover-coupe action.

A Little Sleeker

features promotional video As often is the case with pants, the point of the GLC coupe is a stylish cut. Whereas the tall roofline of the GLC was designed to provide maximum headroom and cargo space, the GLC coupe cuts a more rakish profile that says to the world, “Hey, I’m a practical guy, but I haven’t entirely given up.” At 63.0 inches high and 186.2 inches long, it’s 1.6 inches lower and 3.1 inches longer than the regular GLC-class. Most of the extra length comes from the designers’ need to extend the gently sloping roofline into the rear haunches while maintaining proportions that avoid comparison with the Pontiac Aztek. It works here, looking better integrated than some of these styling exercises. The rear features a beefed-up bumper incorporating a pair of chrome exhaust tips (standard) that exit through a diffuser-like lower panel. Split taillamps and a sharp spoiler lip supposedly echo those of the S-class coupe; squint and you can see the resemblance, but the GLC version definitely resides in an entirely different tax bracket. The front lighting elements also toe the corporate styling line, while the A-pillars are slightly more upright than those on the standard GLC.

Skinny-jean stylishness can result in an uncomfortably tight fit; similarly, the CUV coupe form is known to pare rear-seat headroom and cargo space. Unfortunately, we can’t tell you exactly how much rear headroom has been lost, since official interior dimensions have not yet been released and we neglected to pack laser-enabled yardsticks for this first drive of the GLC coupe in the mountains of Italy. It doesn’t seem excessively cramped, though. (We’ll have hard numbers as soon as we get one for a full test.) Preliminary European info pegs the cargo capacity at 18 cubic feet with rear seat up, which is only slightly less than the 19 cubes in the 2016 GLC300. That’s a small price to pay for looking good.

Interior appointments nearly duplicate those in the GLC. That means supportive seating and a large center console that stretches from the armrest to the dashboard, intersecting just behind the surface of the infotainment display (a 7.0-inch unit is standard; an 8.4-incher is optional), which stands proud atop the dash, above the circular HVAC vents. Standard equipment, as on the regular GLC300, includes power-operated sunroof, driver’s seat, tailgate and folding mirrors; collision prevention assist; and keyless start, among other minor niceties.

2018 Mercedes E-Class Coupe interior and exterior design promotional video

Information on the interior and exterior design videos and vehicle specials of the 2018 Mercedes E-Class Coupe sports car in detail

2018 Mercedes-Benz E-class Coupe: More Size, More Style, More Space
A big step up for Benz's middle two-door.

The coupe—the real, two-door variety—is alive and well at Mercedes-Benz. The latest evidence is the redesigned two-door now joining the new W213-generation E-class lineup to bring the middle child in step with its C- and S-class siblings.

At first glance, you could be forgiven for confusing this new E-class for its stablemates, given the flowing design language shared by all three. That’s not a dig, as the E-class preserves much of the beauty of the larger S-class despite its slightly shrunken proportions. While the familiar front end with its “diamond” grille is hardly groundbreaking, the E-class coupe’s clean body sides and B-pillar-less side glass combine with an uncluttered rear end to make for a beautifully smooth profile.

Creating Space

Moving away from the C-class–derived underpinnings of the previous E-class coupe, the new E coupe now shares more with the E sedan, widening the size gap between it and the smaller model. Riding on a 4.4-inch-longer wheelbase, the new coupe is five inches longer overall, three inches wider, and an inch and a half taller than its predecessor, and its 190.0-inch length now neatly splits the difference between the 184.5-inch C-class and the 197.9-inch S-class. Mercedes says that rear-seat room increases commensurately, with the two individual chairs back there providing better leg- and headroom than before.

The engine lineup for the U.S. market also seems poised to put some distance between the E- and the C-class. While the E300 sedan available on our shores shares its turbocharged four-cylinder with the C300, the two-door E will be offered only as an E400. As it does on the E-class wagon, this moniker signifies a standard twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 making 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. This same engine was installed in the previous E400 coupe, but a new nine-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous seven-speed for improved acceleration and improved fuel economy, claims Mercedes. Rear-wheel-drive and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive versions will be offered, and Mercedes says the RWD E400 gets from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, 0.9 second quicker than the company’s claim for the outgoing model.

The coupe’s ride height is lower than the sedan’s, and an air suspension is optional. A Sport package (the white car in the photos) adds a body kit, AMG wheels, and an AMG steering wheel. Those desiring an even sportier E-class coupe will have to wait a bit longer for a full AMG version; there’s no official word on one yet, although a V-8–powered E63 coupe won’t be in the cards. Instead, the AMG coupe will be powered by one of Mercedes-Benz’s new turbocharged inline-six engines, possibly with around 450 horsepower, meant to sit above AMG’s own E43 sedan variant, which has a more powerful version of the E400’s turbocharged V-6.

Techy Treats

A full array of high-tech features will be available in the coupe, as they are in the E-class sedan. The sedan’s 12.3-inch central COMAND screen is standard on the two-door, and a second 12.3-inch digital instrument-cluster display is optional. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included on models equipped with navigation, and there’s a wireless inductive charging pad for compatible smartphones as well. Automatic emergency braking is standard equipment, while the more advanced Drive Pilot semi-autonomous system is available.

Pricing will be announced closer to the E-class’s U.S. launch next summer, but customers should expect to pay a premium for its extra dose of style and power compared with the E300 sedan, which starts at $53,075.

2017 Bentley Bentayga interior design promotional video

Video of the 2017 Bentley Bentway interior introduced in detail New Bentayga Diesel

Introducing Bentley’s First Ever Diesel
Our engineers have turned accepted wisdom around diesel engines on its head with the creation of the new Bentley Bentayga V8 diesel engine. As you would expect, it is every inch a Bentley engine, with all the familiar driving and performance characteristics that have been established and embedded over many years. Much as we began designing Bentayga with a clean sheet, we have approached our first diesel engine with the same attitude.

Go far beyond the ordinary
Not only is this Bentley’s first diesel engine, it is also the world’s finest, delivering class-leading drivability, response, refinement, and practicality. Powered by a new 4.0 litre, 8-cylinder diesel engine it has clean technology and engineering innovation at its core. Featuring an extended range of over 1,000km, Bentley Bentayga Diesel is also triple-charged (two turbos, one electric powered compressor) which delivers a far quicker, more dynamic response than conventional turbochargers would, especially at the lower engine speed range. Whether you’re gliding past traffic on a winding tarmac road or negotiating landscapes where there is no road, Bentayga Diesel performs with effortless grace and elegance.

Configured for every occasion
The new Bentayga Diesel also features a seven seat configuration option. This addition to the choices available makes it the only luxury diesel SUV with four, five and seven seat configurations in one body style. Wherever you decide to go, whatever adventures you decide to have, Bentayga can take you there.

What will Bentayga reveal to you?
Bentayga Diesel offers a consummate balance between luxury, performance and practicality.
The further you travel in it and the more of the world you see, the more you realise that Bentayga Diesel is an SUV unlike any other.
*Note: Bentayga Diesel is only available in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

See Technology

Bentayga is leading the way in technological advances at Bentley. And much of that technological development has been focused on perfecting the driving experience. From easy access to a range of driving modes to cutting-edge driver assistance technology to electronic power assisted steering, Bentayga delivers driving pleasure in even the most challenging situations.

Every feature has been perfected as a result of research with Bentley drivers around the world, many of whom also drive at least one SUV. Bentayga is the first Bentley to offer more than two choices of sound system, including the most powerful system available in any SUV.

The interface is remarkably flexible, offering a choice of touch control, rotary dials, gestures or even voice, depending on user preferences or driving conditions.

Meanwhile, rear seat passengers can also enjoy TV and video entertainment, navigation features, games, video calling and media streaming.

In the Bentayga, this technology is applied with subtlety, with the aim of enhancing the experience for everyone inside the car. When not required, its presence is barely perceptible. When needed, the effects can be quite striking.

Comparison of 2017 Toyota C-HR and 2017 Honda HR-V

Introductory video showing similar features and different features between 2017 Toyota C-HR and 2017 Honda HR-V

The Honda HR-V (or "Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle") slots right under the larger CR-V in price just as the Toyota C-HR (or "Coupe High Rider") takes up less room in your garage and budget than the RAV4.

These sub-compact SUVs are known as "mini-utes." Both began life on small car platforms (Fit and Prius) and then Honda and Toyota treated them to some rugged styling and platform heels. They are seeking sales in a market that is drifting away from traditional sedans toward versatile crossover vehicles that have the economy of a car but the utility of a truck. Other entrants in this burgeoning segment include Chevy Trax, Nissan Juke, Jeep Renegade, and arguably the best all-around choice, Subaru Crosstrek.

C-HR's controversial styling comes directly from the Japanese techo-brutal design school pioneered by rival Nissan on its GT-R supercar. In fact, C-HR looks more like a Nissan Maxima or Nissan Juke than the conventional-looking Toyota products to which we're accustomed. Toyota heir and CEO Akio Toyoda has been pushing his staid company to produce vehicles with a little more aesthetic and kinetic passion, which might explain why the C-HR apes Nissan's aggressive styling. Fortunately for CH-R buyers, they will break a lot less often than a Nissan!

As Subaru dealers, we don't have a dog in this hunt, but if you wouldn't let us drive a Crosstrek then we would probably pick the HR-V. We like Honda resale value and the ingenious Magic Seat system that permutes manifold cargo-people configurations, making the car act much bigger than it is. Comparably equipped, they cost almost the exact same, around $24,000 for an all-wheel-drive version in mid-level trim. You really can't go wrong with either one, and either way you get three consonants and a hyphen.
You can buy an HR-V now but you'll have to wait til spring, 2017 for a C-HR.

Review
All Wheel Drive System

Both come standard with front-wheel-drive. Honda and Toyota bolt on additional hardware to convert to AWD. Toyota system is more sophisticated and responds more quickly to a loss of traction.

Ride Quality
Both offer a much better ride than the truck-based SUVs of yore. Both have lots of "suspension travel" up and down over bumps. "Travel" is just a fancy way of saying that there is more space for the suspension to compress, which results in a more compliant ride. We give the slight edge to Honda's handling...somehow they've figured out a way to spray some eau-de-Formula-One on their economy runabouts.

Driver Assistive Technology
Both Toyota and Honda produce suites of optional technologies to help you drive more safely, even including automatic braking if you're distracted. These features are not yet available on HR-V. Toyota Safety Sense is standard on the C-HR as Toyota is pushing to include autonomous safety features in its economy cars

in-line engine with
144 horsepower

HR-V

2018 Lexus LC - interior Exterior and Drive

The Lexus LC: A Dynamic Luxury Coupe in Every Aspect The introduction of the new LC performance coupe is a significant illustration of Lexus’ dedication to create cars with exciting, emotional designs and exhilarating performance.

In the space of just 27 years, Lexus has had a transformative effect on the world’s luxury car market. Engineering excellence has produced generations of powerful, responsive engines and transmissions, while its pioneering hybrid technology has taken efficiency and smoothness to ever higher levels. Cutting-edge design and a contemporary approach to luxury based on master craftsmanship traditions further emphasize its status as a world-class luxury vehicle manufacturer.

Now Lexus is building on its established strengths and evolving its reputation for vehicle development to explore new opportunities in design and technology that reshape its model range.

The change is being led from the top by Akio Toyoda, who in taking on the roles of Lexus’ Chief Branding Officer and master driver, has given the business more freedom, autonomy, and the confidence to be daring. With the benefit of dedicated resources, greater flexibility and quicker decision-making, Lexus has delivered a succession of vibrant new models that are changing the way it is perceived by both customers and the global automotive industry.

The striking NX crossover, the latest-generation RX, and the RC F and GS F performance models all demonstrate the great leap Lexus has made in crafting distinctive contemporary designs and delivering rewarding dynamic experiences—while retaining the luxury, quality, and attention to detail for which it has always been renowned.

The LC coupe takes this evolution to another level. Lexus has succeeded in turning its LF-LC concept into an uncompromised production car, in less than five years since its unveiling to huge critical and public acclaim. This feat has called for new ways of cooperation between the design and engineering teams throughout the development process.

Not only has Lexus delivered a design with high visual impact, it has also developed ground-breaking engineering and technology for the LC. The LC 500h features Lexus’ new Multi Stage Hybrid System, which offers enhanced performance across engine speeds, a more direct response to driver inputs, and a higher level of dynamic performance and driving pleasure – all while maintaining the smoothness and efficiency that are characteristic of Lexus hybrids. The LC 500, powered by a normally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, also marks a first in the premium car segment with its new Direct Shift 10-speed automatic transmission, featuring gear ratios spaced to achieve smooth, linear and rhythmical acceleration.

DESIGN Distinctive LC design based on award-winning LF-LC Concept car Avant-garde styling achieved through unprecedented level of cooperation between Lexus’ design and engineering teams Fluid interpretation of Lexus’ “seduction and technology” design theme Luxury 2+2 coupe proportions, with authentic front engine/rear drive design characterized by low hood and roof lines and aerodynamically efficient surfacing

A FLAGSHIP COUPE

The LC is a new flagship 2+2 performance coupe for Lexus’ global model range, not only showcasing the qualities of design, beauty, engineering and advanced technology that define it as a premium vehicle manufacturer, but also symbolizing its ambition as a luxury lifestyle brand. The Lexus LC will go on sale in the U.S. in Spring 2017.

The LC isn’t simply a car that looks good. It has been engineered in every dimension to deliver a very special driving experience. “Even sharper and more refined” were the constant watchwords as Lexus honed every aspect of the car’s performance, ride and handling. It is a contemporary interpretation of the finest traditions of the grand tourer, a coupe focused on the road, not the track. Its handling, responsiveness and comfort have been tuned to deliver a rewarding and hugely enjoyable experience.

2017 Mazda 3 Interior and exterior design overview

2017 Mazda 3 Interior and exterior design overview 2017 Mazda 3: Sharper, Crisper, Cleaner A few midlife tweaks for Mazda's well-rounded compact.

The well-rounded Mazda 3 compact is being freshened for 2017. The relatively mild updates to the U.S. model, which were previously announced for the global version of the car, include tweaked exterior styling, some new interior bits, updated active-safety features, and the addition of Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control system for improved steering response.

That doesn’t sound like much, but the 3 didn’t need much improvement—in its current form, it has earned a spot on our 10Best Cars list for the past three years. Nonetheless, the changes for 2017 are welcome, especially the revised exterior that nicely sharpens the 3’s look. The reshaped grille and headlights present a slightly more aggressive face to the world, and LED headlights are newly available on higher-trim models. A new rear bumper appears a bit cleaner and crisper than before, at least on the pictured hatchback model (Mazda has yet to release photos of the U.S.-spec 2017 sedan).

The 18-inch wheels available on the 3’s s trim also are slightly different, although the 16-inch wheels and hubcaps on lower-spec i versions remain the same. Two new colors are available: Machine Gray Metallic joins the palette, while Eternal Blue Mica replaces the previous Blue Reflex Mica.

Interior revisions are a bit more noteworthy, with the 3 adopting a steering wheel similar to that in the new CX-9 crossover, an electric parking brake that frees up center-console storage space, and some nicer trim for the door panels. The optional head-up display is now full color rather than monochromatic, and the door pockets are said to be much larger than before. A heated steering wheel is a new option, while upholstery upgrades include nicer fabric for the standard cloth interior, new espresso-colored accents for the optional black leather interior, and parchment-colored leather replacing the previous almond shade. Mind you, this is in a car we’ve already adjudged to have the best interior available for under $30,000.

As for the 3’s mechanicals, the most significant addition is Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control, a new steering system that reduces torque when entering a corner to increase the responsiveness of the steering rack. We sampled this system on a Mazda 6 test mule and found the results to be subtle but effective. To combat relatively high levels of road noise—one of our few complaints about the 3—Mazda said it has revised the dampers and sound insulation for a quieter overall ride.

There are no engine changes. The 2017 Mazda 3’s two engine choices remain a 155-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder on 3 i models and a 184-hp 2.5-liter inline-four on 3 s models. As before, either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission is available regardless of engine choice, something that can’t be said about many of the 3’s competitors, which limit manual-transmission availability to the basement models.

A suite of active-safety features remains on the options list: forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. A new camera is now part of the package, which Mazda says expands the speed range at which pedestrians can be detected for the automated emergency-braking system. Cars equipped with the i-Activsense package can now also recognize road signs.

More nitty-gritty information on the 2017 Mazda 3, including pricing and official EPA mileage numbers, should be released soon. The 2017 model is scheduled to go on sale in September. We don’t expect much of an increase from the current 3’s starting prices of $18,680 for the sedan and $19,380 for the hatchback.
