Resuscitating AUTO SHOP CLASSES FOR THE EV ERA, ONE OLD VOLKSWAGEN AT A TIME

electrical volkswagen

A secondary teacher revived his auto shop class in West New York, N.J., by presenting an electric vehicle transformation course.

At the point when Ron Grosinger started training shop class in 2005 at Memorial High School in West New York, N.J., the program was attempting to endure. In a school confronting numerous difficulties, the elective course had dwindled from six educators to two and infrequently offered any hands-on learning, Grosinger says.

started training shop

As in numerous schools the nation over, the shop program was on the way to being dispensed with. Between the additional expense of running capital-concentrated classes and a developing spotlight on school planning, enlistment in professional classes has dwindled from earlier decades – even with a developing financial requirement for future mechanics.

To keep the class above water, Grosinger realized he'd need to get inventive to remain important. "In case you're showing understudies gas vehicles, that is essentially what might be compared to 8-track players," says Grosinger.

Along these lines, in 2008, he moved toward the school's chairmen with an imaginative thought: he would show his 27 understudies, bit by bit, how to change over a gas driven vehicle to electric power.

"With the electric vehicle, I needed to demonstrate two things," says Grosinger. "To begin with, [I needed to prove] that we could change over it. Everybody was letting me know at the time that it was inconceivable when truly, we simply didn't have the choice yet [on an enormous scale].

"Second, and most significant, I needed to demonstrate that children are excessively able. You simply need to give them a possibility."

He had as of late taken an escalated, fourteen day EV change course in San Diego and accepted the new program would help train understudies applied science and designing standards through car applications. With sponsorship from the school, he had the option to buy his first transformation vehicle: a 1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet.

Grosinger realized

Grosinger realized it would fill in as the ideal base for this particular form. "Volkswagen vehicles are known for their German designing and moderateness. They're worked with simple and the parts are promptly accessible," Grosinger says. "They're additionally moderately lightweight, which is extraordinary for electric change and helps keep the battery expenses down for the class. … All the cash you put into them is justified, despite all the trouble."

After some time, the understudies figured out how to create the different mechanical parts in cardboard, at that point wood, at that point steel. They welded parts, handled wiring and figured out how to take care of issues as they emerged.

"We totally gutted the vehicle and set up everything back together," says Grosinger.

Inside a year, he saw the understudy cosmetics of the class had extended to cutting edge math, science, material science and designing understudies. Likewise, there were a lot increasingly female understudies. "The young ladies in my classes are astonishing specialists," says Grosinger. "Through hands-on learning, I trust they are urged to keep up and widen their enthusiasm for STEM professions." he will probably get the male to female proportion up to 50-50.

Consistently since his first year of instructing, Grosinger has raised the stakes and moved his class to take on new extends. In the decade since the program was patched up, enlistment has drastically expanded. The office has now extended to four instructors and the school included an after-school car program.

"Instructors ought to urge understudies to investigate new and increasingly productive approaches to move an individual from indicate A point B, regardless of whether that framework is a train with sun oriented boards on it, a vehicle with an electric engine in it or retrofitting a current innovation with an alternate vitality source," says Grosinger. "What's more, don't think of the answers for the understudies."

The different car manufacture activities have likewise prompted the honor of extra award cash that has helped pay for better than ever gear. Above all, few of Grosinger's understudies have proceeded to work in the car field.

Grosinger qualities the fame and development of these courses to the advancement of STEM subjects and the imbuement of innovative hardware, similar to 3D printers, in the projects.

"It's tied in with giving understudies alternatives," he says.

2019 Volkswagen Arteon SEL Premium R-Line 4Motion - Interior Exterior Promotion

exterior design

2019 Volkswagen Arteon is based off the MQB architecture, features dramatic coupe-like design 268 hp 2.0-liter TSI® engine is paired with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and optional 4Motion® all-wheel drive

Standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, full LED headlights, Front Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, and DCC® adaptive damping

Available premium features include: Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, massaging driver’s seat, and Dynaudio® premium audio

2019 Volkswagen Arteon Exterior

Three years ago, Volkswagen presented the exciting Arteon concept car at the Geneva International Motor Show. The statement at the time was clear: this Gran Turismo ushered in a new era of Volkswagen design.

The concept car that garnered worldwide attention entered production nearly unchanged, combining the design elements of a traditional sports car with the elegance of a fastback.

red exterior design

From the front, Arteon has an aggressive stance—low and wide—that immediately sets it apart from the sedan segment.

Borrowing a design feature from classic sports cars, the contoured hoodlines on the Arteon extend directly into its grille. The grille, in turn, emphasizes the width of the Arteon in chrome crossbars framed by standard LED lighting.

The side profile of the all-new Arteon is elegantly coupe-like, with a fast sloping rear roofline. A bold character line flows from the grille and runs uninterrupted through the side panels and into the rear of the car.

The tail end of the Arteon again borrows from classic sports car styling with its high, broad shoulders, accented by standard LED taillights. Chrome details also flow from front to back, with lower-door and trunk accent pieces.

The ambitious design is made possible by the flexible MQB architecture, which also gives the Arteon a completely different look than its CC predecessor. The wheelbase on the Arteon is more than five inches longer than the CC—111.7 inches compared to 106.7 inches—and is paired with shorter overhangs for more dynamic proportions.

Arteon is 191.4 inches long, 73.7 inches wide and 56.5 inches tall. Thanks to a sophisticated overall aerodynamic package, the 2019 Arteon has a low 0.30 coefficient of drag.

All Arteon models feature standard LED headlights, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), and taillights. SEL models upgrade to LED headlights with the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), which adjusts the headlight beams to help compensate for dynamic changes, like deceleration and cornering, and feature power-folding side mirrors with memory. SEL Premium models add puddle lights to the side-mirrors that illuminate when you unlock the doors.

2019 Volkswagen Arteon Interior

The exterior design of the Arteon translates into a spacious interior for everyday usability. The long wheelbase afforded by the MQB architecture gives Arteon generous rear legroom, at 40.2 inches, with substantial headroom as well—37.7 inches in front, and 37.0 in the rear. Thanks to its fastback shaping, Arteon offers an SUV-like 27.2 cubic feet of trunk storage; with the standard 60:40 rear seats folded down, that number increases to 55 cubic feet.

interior cockpit design

The cabin experience is further refined with modern design and premium materials. The dashboard is organized along a clean, straight line, and features an innovative air vent that extends across the entire width of the interior.

Dash panels flow directly into the front door trim panels, wrapping around front passengers like a cocoon.

Three-zone Climatronic® automatic climate control is standard across the Arteon range; SEL Premium models add a rear seat control panel.

Heated, 12-way power seats in leatherette are standard in the Arteon SE. SEL models add Nappa leather seating surfaces and a memory setting for the driver, while SEL Premium models have ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a massaging function for the driver.

A leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel is standard across all models; SEL Premium models feature a heated version with paddle shifters.

Models equipped with the optional R-Line package welcome drivers with the R-Line logo on the touchscreen and feature a number of interior design enhancements including: contrast stitching on the steering wheel and shift knob; steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters; metallic décor pieces; black headliner; stainless-steel sport pedal covers; and stainless-steel door sills with the R-Line logo.

2019 Volkswagen Arteon Powertrain

The all-new Arteon is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine, making 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The power is taken to the front wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® shifting; 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on SE and SEL models and standard on SEL Premium models.

volkswagen engine

The TSI engine features innovative solutions such as water-cooled exhaust gas routing through the cylinder head to the turbocharger (to help reduce full-load fuel consumption) and a dual injection system with direct and multi-port injection.

Thanks to its fully electronic coolant control system, the four-cylinder engine also offers efficient thermal management with a short warm-up phase; this helps reduce friction and helps to decrease fuel consumption.

A Start/Stop System is standard on all Arteon models. This technology stops the engine during idle when the brake pedal is held (such as when waiting at a red light). When the brake pedal is released, the engine restarts seamlessly.

Front-wheel-drive Arteon models have an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 22 mpg in city driving, 31 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined. Models equipped with 4Motion all-wheel drive are rated at 20 mpg in city driving, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Volkswagen ID. Buggy Concept 2019 New York Auto Show Event

exterior design

Volkswagen ID. BUGGY concept uses the MEB chassis to bring the legendary dune buggy into the age of electric mobility Minimalistic design has no roof, no doors, and weatherproof interior 155-mile estimated range (WLTP) from 62 kWh battery.

Drawing inspiration from the classic Californian dune buggies of the 60s, the Volkswagen ID. BUGGY concept was shown today for the first time in North America.

With a minimalistic design with no roof, no doors, and a weatherproof interior, the 2-seater ID. BUGGY shows the versatility of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) and puts the fun in functional.

The MEB chassis integrates a 62kWh lithium-ion battery into the floor and a 201-horsepower electric motor in the rear to give it an expected range of 155 miles on the WLTP cycle.

Volkswagen ID. Buggy concept exterior

Like the classic Beetle and Bus, ID. BUGGY has no need for a grille, and yet the summer cruiser is instantly recognizable as a Volkswagen.

The prominently raised hood, fenders and tail end hint at the concept’s off-road chops, while three-dimensional oval LED headlights and taillights, an LED VW logo, and a body that seems to float above the chassis lend an air of approachability.

light lamp design

The floating effect is created by the use of two colors next to each other. The top half of the car—most notably the striking fenders and shoulders—is painted in matte Fern Green, while the bottom portion is painted in a textured Grey Tech Blue. The green part visually floats above the dark blue area.

ID. BUGGY is equipped properly for an all-terrain vehicle. It features standard 18-inch wheels and BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A® off-road tires (255/55 at front and 285/60 at rear). A solid aluminum underbody guard ensures that the front axle and ancillaries are not damaged during off-road driving, and the aluminum side sill panel assumes the function of an additional underbody guard.

Should another vehicle need a tow or should the BUGGY itself be incapacitated, two robust red steel eyelets are integrated in the bumpers.

The reinforced windscreen frame and the Targa bar, which is also open at the side, provides rollover support.

There are no doors and no roof, but a black tarp can be stretched between the windscreen frame and the Targa bar as a sun shield or as light weather protection.

The open concept car is 160.0 in long, 74.4 in wide and 57.6 in high, featuring short front and rear overhangs (27.0 and 28.6 in respectively). The wheelbase is 104.3 in and ground clearance is 9.4 in.

Volkswagen ID. Buggy concept interior

The ID. BUGGY’s minimalist interior is characterized by easy handling and waterproof materials. All elements surrounding the exterior are a continuation of the body, painted in Fern Green, while the majority of the interior trim is finished in a robust Grey Tech Blue soft-touch paint.

The driver and passenger sit on seats with headrests and belt guides integrated into the backrests, while the floor plate is outfitted with anti-slip knobs.

interior cockpit design

Despite the shortened wheelbase of the concept car, passengers have an unusually large amount of space.

This is due to the ID. family’s compact electric drive and axles arranged further to the outside. This open space always provides room that is about one class above that of comparable cars with a conventional drivetrain.

The minimalistic cockpit has been designed to match the character and design of the ID. BUGGY. With the “Hey you” display in the cockpit, the concept car greets its driver and draws attention to the fact that it is ready for operation.

A hexagonal steering wheel, covered with water-repellent Nappa leather, features touch controls in the crossbar, and a digital instrument cluster keeps the dash uncluttered.

Volkswagen ID. Buggy concept Electric drive

The zero-emissions drivetrain of the ID. BUGGY is made up of the electric motor integrated in the rear axle, power electronics, a single-speed gearbox, the high-voltage flat battery (62 kWh) arranged in the car floor to save space, and the additional units integrated in the vehicle front end.

The electric motor delivers 201 horsepower and maximum torque of 228 lb-ft from standstill. This means that the electric vehicle always provides enough power on the rear axle, even off-road. The concept car sprints from zero to 62 mph in just 7.2 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically controlled at 99 mph.

As an alternative to the rear-wheel-drive layout, it is also possible to fit a second electric motor in the front axle of the ID. BUGGY. In this case, an “electric propshaft” would distribute the power of the 4Motion® four-wheel drive between the front and rear axles in fractions of a second.

Regardless of rear drive or four-wheel drive, power electronics control the high-voltage energy flow between the engine and battery.

The power electronics convert direct current (DC) stored in the battery into alternating current (AC). The on-board electronics are supplied with 12V via a DC/DC converter.

The position of the battery in the vehicle floor gives ID. BUGGY a lower center of gravity for better handling.

The new T-Cross: versatile and practical SUV model in the small car class

exterior design introduction

Masculine-designed urban transport
Four efficient turbocharged engines - three petrol and one diesel - complying with Euro 6d-Temp emission standard

With T-Cross, Volkswagen is introducing a new SUV model: even shorter to the city than T-Roc and therefore more convenient and more compact than the Tiguan.

Ralf Brandstätter, Chief Operations Officer of Volkswagen Brand, explained at the world premiere in Amsterdam today: üç Today we are introducing T-Cross three times today - we announced it a few hours ago in Shanghai, and São Paulo will follow later tonight. It shows how important T-Cross is for the Volkswagen brand as a truly global product. "

Brandstätter presented the new T-Cross for T-Cross with Cara Delevingne, British supermodel, actress, musician and reference.

Cara, who has 41 million followers on Instagram, said: ür I always travel, so working with Volkwagen, the world's largest car maker, is the perfect partnership for me. T-Cross is much more than a City-SUV - it has multiple faces (like me!) And I love how elegant it is! "

a great companion

The new T-Cross is a great companion for all occasions

The T-Cross is based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB), which allows the driven front axle to be positioned too far. The 2.56-meter wheelbase, with a total vehicle length of 4.11 meters, is relatively generous and allows for a spacious interior with enough space for five people. For the highest possible versatility in the interior, the sliding rear seat can be adjusted up to 14 centimeters by providing more passenger footroom or more luggage space.

The luggage compartment is between 385 and 455 liters. Thanks to the fully or partially folded rear seat backrest, you can create a flat loading area with up to 1,281 liters of storage space in the blink of an eye.

The new T-Cross has four turbocharged engines: three petrol and one diesel. Two TSI three-cylinder gasoline engines with gasoline particulate filters produce 70 kW / 95 PS or 85 kW / 115 PS. The top model is a 1.5 TSI four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 110 kW / 150 PS. The completion of the range is a 1.6 TDI four-cylinder engine rated at 70 kW / 95 PS. All engines comply with the latest Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta R-Line Overview Interior exterior design introduction

For the 2019 model year, the Jetta is based on Volkswagen's Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform architecture.

Overview exterior
Working with the flexible MQB platform created a longer wheelbase, a wider runway and a shorter front overhang, allowing designers to reshape the body. The quick sloping rear roof line changes to a coupe-like profile. Dynamic lines and taut surfaces combine with the new silhouette to give the Jetta an elegant yet athletic look.

Compared with the current car, the new car grows in all directions. Longer, wider and longer than the outgoing model. Increased external ratios provide more interior space than the previous car.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta exterior design:

The all-new Jetta, in Volkswagen's clean and timeless design DNA, points to an evolution with modern lines and elegant looks. The combination of a wider front grille and sharper lines gives a bold character, giving the feel of a first-class feel with more chrome and LED lighting.

Overview Interior

2019 Volkswagen Jetta Interior Design:

The Jetta interior design has been redesigned, designed for greater comfort while supporting a sophisticated, luxurious design. According to 2019 Jetta's previous car, there is more bedrooms, knee room and shoulder room. The body area is 14.1 cubic feet and the double folded rear seats (60/40) are standard.

The cockpit is a driver-oriented environment with the following function. Both the instruments and the infotainment system are arranged in a horizontal direction that is easy to read. Both the infotainment system and the climate control interface are located in the center console, which is correctly opened to the drive.

Meanwhile, the outboard trapezoidal design elements are repeated in the cabin for a sporty touch and the first-class soft-touch materials are used. The lower instrument panel has a similar horizontal design underneath the cockpit, along the entire instrument panel and with a fine decorative trim strip extending into the doors.

The new fabric colors and designs for the 2019 Jetta sports seats and door skins and the front seats feature an ergonomically optimized backrest release that makes it particularly easy to make adjustments for the front seat. For an extra luxurious touch, the SEL Premium's electric adjustable seats offer standard perforated leather seating surfaces with heated and front seat ventilation.
