The common-rail direct-injection 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine impresses with its outstanding performance.
The maximum torque of 550 Nm is available in a wide engine speed range from 1400 to 3200 rpm. This means that high torque is already present at low engine speeds. Whether it's sporty driving style, comfortable long-distance tours or off-road driving in harsh conditions - the V6 always ensures calm and efficient progress. Special designs include a lightweight design, a single-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, and the innovative NANOSLIDE ® cylinder liner coating, which is also used in Formula 1, especially for agile motor response.
The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, available as standard, with steering shift paddles, operates without downtime during gear shifting. This improves handling when taking gradients, terrain and trailers. Other advantages include fast gearshift operation and low engine speed. This has a positive effect, especially in terms of efficiency and noise levels. The wide gearshift range provides an individual driving experience with the DYNAMIC SELECTION system. Manual gear change is also possible with the shift paddles on the steering wheel.
DYNAMIC SELECTION for individual driving characteristics
With the DYNAMIC SELECT system supplied as standard, the X 350 d 4MATIC has a driving mode switch that is rarely available in the receiving section. With five driving modes, the driving characteristics can be changed by fingertip control - sporty and dynamic from comfort and comfort. These modes change the motor response, the shift points of the automatic transmission and the ECO start / stop function:
Comfort: This mode is activated automatically when the engine is running. Provides compatible accelerator features and early shift points emphasizing comfort.
Eco: The 7G-TRONIC PLUS shifts gears, especially at low engine speeds.
Sports: The engine reacts immediately to the gas inlet. The automatic transmission uses the entire engine speed to shift and shifts at higher engine speeds.
Manual: The automatic transmission can be operated manually using the shift lever on the steering wheel. This results in considerably shorter shift times than the Comfort and Eco programs.
Offroad: This mode is suitable for driving in difficult terrain. It offers higher sliding points and a more smooth, therefore more precisely adjustable, accelerator characteristic curve.
The ECO start / stop function can be used in all driving modes except Offroad mode. The DYNAMIC SELECTION switch is located on the central control panel in the center console. The selected mode is displayed as a status and appears as a pop-up on the multifunction display of the instrument panel for a short time when the mode is changed.
