2020 Toyota Corolla LE Hybrid - Interior Exterior Design and Driving Presentation

The 2020 Corolla sedan L, LE and XLE grades will use the 1.8-liter engine (2ZR-FAE) in the previous generation, but will provide more horsepower and better fuel efficiency.



The SE and XSE classes are supported by the all-new 2.0 liter Dynamic Strong direct injection four-cylinder engine (M20A-FKS). This new engine delivers more performance when using less fuel. Remarkably, the new Corolla sedan engine is physically smaller and lighter, helping to reduce the center of gravity of the car and improve its overall stability.

Interior design

Here are some of the technical features of the Corolla sedan's new engine:


The new Dynamic Force engine achieves high power and efficiency from the combination of the Toyota D4-S fuel injection, high-speed combustion, VVT-iE intelligent variable valve timing combining high-compression ratio (13: 1), direct and secondary port injectors on the suction side and VVT- i on the exhaust. The VVT-iE uses an electric motor instead of the oil pressure to control the variable valve timing.

Exterior design

Two drain ports, oil pump and variable cooling system with electric water pump help you maximize engine performance and efficiency. A more efficient cooling system also enables faster cab heating on cold days and faster cooling when using air conditioning.

All these technologies, combined with ultra low internal friction, provide a maximum thermal efficiency of 40% for a passenger car engine. You can't feel the heat efficiency, but you can feel the effects of peak peak torque of 151 lb.-ft at 6,600 rpm at 169 span horsepower.

Fit for Hybrid

The hybrid powertrain and battery are a natural fit for the new Corolla due to the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. For example, the cab model is not compromised, for example, when selecting a Corolla Hybrid against a gas model.

The new hybrid system combines a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electronically controlled planetary continuous variable transmission (CVT) with two motors / generators through the transaxle. The combined output of 121 horsepower ensures precise performance.

The smaller size and the flatter shape of the nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack allow the rear seat to be placed under the rear seat rather than the trunk space, and also allow a 60/40 split rear seat backrest to increase the cargo capacity. The battery position also contributes to the low center of gravity of the vehicle as a blessing to agility.

The gas motor, the other half of the Hybrid Synergy Drive team, is not less impressive than the electric side. The 2ZR-FXE 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine is specifically designed for a hybrid application. In the long-stroke configuration, the Atkinson cycle is used, which uses a very high compression ratio (13.0: 1) with a shorter input stroke than the Otto cycle and a longer expansion stroke. The Atkinson cycle draws more energy than the fuel, and the electric motors reduce the low-end power (versus the Otto cycle).
